Design & Restoration

Together as a team with the modernist architect Oliver Keuper (based in Germany) - I did this project wherein we restored an old building with small dwelling units into four floors of contemporary loft apartments. The project’s design language and aethetic was intentionally kept as minimal and crisp white. This created a scope for highlighting the elements of brutalist and modern architecture throughout the design project.

Before & After _ Overview

The pictures below shows the pre existing rustic building with significantly small and crowded interior spaces. The existing columns along the window facade were taken as the basis and raised till the 4th floor in order to keep a unified aesthtic of the entire built structure. The new built indoor spaces were much more spacious and utilised the natural light more effeciently.

Modernising the Outdoor

The outdoor space along the building was previously an uneven surface with croocked stone tiles. Often the spaces between these stones were the reason for the unwanted vegetation growth and water retention. A flat linear concrete garden was then designed and built in this space which significantly increased the usable outdoor surface area. This element of brutalist architecture complimeted the indoor floor/roof design and the overall project aesthetic.

Handmade & Custom Design

“Working With Wood” on site was one of the most exciting parts of this project. As a team of 2 - the principal architect and I, made the distinctive wooden flooring for the terrace, penthouse balconies and the outdoor garden space all by ourselves. This added a little personalised touch to this project that we were so heartly involved with.
